Your job is to ascertain how their suggestion may or may not support you in finding your passion, doing what you love and getting you to where you want to go in life.
But what if you don't know? I say, so what if you did know? How would it make you feel? You know the answer to that one I'm sure.
If you feel like you are being forced to fit a mould that doesn't feel right then it is time to explore what finding your passion is really about. The next step is to express how you feel to the people who will support you with your decision. They don't have to understand how you feel, you are only asking for their support. You might not understand why someone would want to swim up and back, and up and back in a pool all day long. Ask an Olympic swimmer and they may tell you how exhilarated it makes them feel. You don't have to understand it but you can feel their passion and it makes you want to support them to win.
Understand that people have free will. If for some reason they are not willing to support you, don't take it personally.
