At a time when everyone is trying to put together a tent, hook up a portable radio outside, fire up a grill, and catch up with some old friends I'd like for you to stop for a minute and think. Really think. Take in a deep breath, think about where you were this time last year. Were you in the middle of finals waiting for school to end for the summer? Working everyday waiting for the holiday and that extra day off? Who were you this time last year? For those of you that are thinking "Me, duh!" We've got a lot of work to do.
With Memorial day here we take a moment to thank the men and women for risking their lives so that we can live ours the way that we want, but are you really living or just going through the motions? How many new people have you met this past year? How many people have you reached out to? How many places have you planned to visit versus actually going to? How many movies have you seen versus starred in with the kids or your own friends? How many projects have you started but haven't finished yet? I can'tAppSense APP-100 begin to tell you how many "genius" ideas I've had but haven't acted upon. You know what they say, "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda." I don't want you to be like me. I want you to live and let life happen to you.
Enjoy the little things. The sun, the breeze, the birds, the flowers. Go out and try something new, even if it's only a new restaurant, but don't stop there. Travel, go and see the world for yourself. I'm sure the May 21st "scare" (Supposedly the world was going to end... cricket, cricket) got you thinking that you're not promised tomorrow so you might as well live it up today. Promise me that you'll go SOMEWHERE this summer, even if it's only a few hours away! Take lots of pictures and have some fun. A map is really a puzzle, waiting for you to connect the dots. Let that marinate along with your BBQ ribs before OMG-OCEB-B200they make it to the grill. But remember to remember... Who you are, where you want to be and how you plan on getting there. Make some memories on your own or with family and friends. I know I will.
