Many people believe that the term "brass balls" is a euphemism for bold and decisive decision making or courageous action in the face of insurmountable odds. Some will remember when Brocade 150-420 Alec Baldwin used an actual set of brass balls in the iconic movie Glengarry Glen Ross within the context of brass balls being necessary to be successful at selling real estate. The point was that one needed to be fearless - afraid of nothing - to succeed.
In reality, the term stems from the fact that pawn brokers of old used to hang a set of brass balls outside of their shop indicating what their business was. Beyond serving as a kind of logo to the industry, there was no additional meaning attached. Over time, because of the way the pawn broker business is conducted, the term brass balls came to stand for driving a hard bargain, and standing firm on an offered price.
The funny thing is that either definition accurately describes today's empowered women, who are changing the world of business and life in general. No longer content to stay at home or cheer from the sidelines, today's successful women are getting up, getting out and getting it done.
These tough, smart, focused and driven women are working in the highest levels of business and government, as well as on the firing lines of entrepreneurial enterprise. From Carly Fiorino to Hillary Clinton, women are making Business Objects SABE501V headlines and changing history.
The US Census Bureau reports that in 2007, women owned 7.8 million businesses which created $1.2 trillion of revenue. Women owned more than a quarter of all of the businesses in the US, and that number is growing rapidly. In some industries like health care and social assistance, women own more than half of all businesses.
This is an important point to consider since women have only had the right to vote for less than a hundred years, and it was only 50 years ago or so that the most common occupation that women listed for themselves was "home maker." The interesting distinction is that even though most baby boomer parents were comfortable with this moniker, most baby boomers are not.
Today's women are empowered because they realize the power that they really have. If you want to go to the office and be a power broker there, you can - Corporate America has made a place for you, and it's getting bigger every day. If you want to harness the power of the Internet and work from home, you can do that to, and make just as much money as a senior corporate executive - if you want to.
That's really what it boils down to. In order to make your mark and have an impact, you first need to want to do that. But once you're committed, 1Y0-A08 nothing can stop you.
So whether you are fearless to a fault and utterly courageous, or you simply drive a hard bargain, if you are a modern woman, you have been endowed with the same brass balls that your male counterparts have. It's time to get out and use them.
