I was putting my bicycle on the bike rack and was thinking what my brother and I were going to do when he comes to visit. I forgot to put the latch on the rack and while driving down the road I looked in the rearview Business Objects DMDI201 practice test mirror and saw my bike tumbling over and over on the pavement like a pretzel. I was going down the back stairs one night thinking about where I might have placed the drill in the shed, I missed the last step, fell and broke my little finger. My friend, Jim, was putting his coffee in the microwave to warm it up while he was thinking of calling me. He punched my phone number into the microwave.
These are examples of the body doing one thing while the mind is thinking of something else. It's sometimes called "waking sleep" or "mind wandering." It can be funny some times and disastrous other times. How can we stay in the moment and keep our mind on what we are doing? I discovered the answer by accident.
The other morning my wife was taking her vitamins and said, "I'm taking my vitamins now." Over the years we have been married I've noticed she will often announce what she is doing. She will say, "I'm going to take my bath now." "I'm going to bed now." "I'm going out to work in the garden now." I often thought to myself, "Why does she feel compelled to announce what she is doing? Maybe it is the way she was brought up." I Business Objects DMDI301 practice test asked her one time why she did it and she said she didn't know; she just felt like it.
The morning she announced that she was taking her vitamins I mocked her by announcing that I was putting some eggs in the pot to boil. I said, "I'm putting four eggs in the post to boil now. I'm running the hot water to put in the pot now. I'm turning the stove on now." As I was saying this I noticed that I was staying in the moment the whole time. It was impossible for my mind to be thinking of something else. I continued saying out loud what I was doing. "I'm walking down the hall now. I'm pulling the chair out to sit down now. I'm going back into the kitchen to get my eggs now." After a short time I stopped thinking out loud and started thinking to myself what I was doing. I discovered I was staying in the moment and it was easy. I wasn't doing one thing while my mind was thinking of something else.
However, as the day wore on I noticed myself falling back in waking sleep - thinking one thing and doing another. I was sweeping out the garage and found myself thinking about what I was going to do on the weekend. As soon as I noticed my thinking I said to myself "I'm sweeping the floor now." Immediately my focus came right back into the moment.
I am now practicing staying in the moment while driving. If I am going into town I will say to myself, "I'm driving to town now. I have my hands on the wheel now. I see the road and the cars up ahead now." I'm becoming a better and safer driver by doing this.
I have F50-529 found by saying to myself, "I'm doing so and so now" keeps me in the moment and out of harm's way. It also helps me remember what I went into another room to get, whether I took my pills, if I secured my bicycle on the bike rack, who I am calling, and hundreds of other things.
